BOONE, Iowa (May 18) – The starting field for the Lucas Oil All-Star Invitational promises to represent all regions of the I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modified racing nation.
Fifty-one drivers from 23 states are on the ballot for the second annual event, sponsored by Lucas Oil and scheduled Friday night, Sept. 9 at Boone Speedway, during the I.M.C.A. Speedway Motors Super Nationals.
Race fans will again elect 10 drivers to take the green flag in the 10-car, 10-lap event, using the ballot published in Inside I.M.C.A. and Hawkeye Racing News. Copies of the ballot can also be printed from the here.
The field of All-Star candidates includes drivers who won regional, state and special series championships last season, those who won three track championships or 10 or more sanctioned feature events in 2004, and the winners of designated I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modified special events held in 2004 and the first four months of the current race season.
“The new partnership with Lucas Oil will really strengthen the momentum created by last year’s All-Star Invitational,” I.M.C.A. Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “The cream of the crop of Modified drivers from the past year fill this year’s ballot and regardless of the outcome of the voting, this race at the I.M.C.A. Speedway Motors Super Nationals will be one to watch.”
Winning this year’s All-Star Invitational will be worth $1,000 and every driver starting the race is guaranteed $200. Determination of how the starting field will line up, as well as information regarding contingency awards and lap money, will be announced.
All-Star voting continues through Monday, Aug. 1. Results will be tabulated and drivers notified the following week. Fans can make copies of ballots and vote as many times as they want, but can mail only one ballot per envelope to the I.M.C.A. home office.
Votes can also be cast by e-mail to RACEIMCA@aol.com or by fax to (319) 472-2218. Ballots that do not have 10 drivers named will not be counted.
“We want to emphasize that people can vote as many times as they like, but exact duplicate ballots from the same source will only be counted once a day,” Yoder said. “Good luck to all the drivers on the ballot and we hope all 51 can make it to Super Nationals in September.”
Criteria for drivers on last year’s ballot included former national champions, those with at least 100 career feature wins or 10 career local track titles, Super Nationals champions and winners of the Dirt Works Ron Efkamp Memorial Race of Champions.
